[pic]Arna Bontemps, (1902-1973) Arnaud Wendell Bontemps was a childrens author, historian, romanceist, editor in chief and librarian. Born on October 13, 1902, in Alexandria, Louisiana, Arna Bontemps was part of an African-American Catholic family of French lineage. For three generations, all of the males in his family had been brick masons, and Bontemps mystify judge his son to follow suit. They encouraged him to own known his poetry and fiction, and his first novel, God Sends Sunday, was published in 1931. The novel was later adapted by Bontemps and Countee Cullen into the stage play, St. Louis Woman. Bontemps go to New York City shortly after his first rime consent was published in THE CRISIS: A RECORD OF THE DARKER RACES (August 1924). Bontemps was an influential and momentous member of the Harlem Renaissance.
