The Harlem Renaissance: Representations of the new-fashioned Negro in Literature and separate germinal Arts using this directed topic and patronage for my lowest paper; I was introduced to Arna Bontemps, Eubie Blake, Elizabeth Catlett and Thomas Dorsey. [pic]Arna Bontemps, (1902-1973) Arnaud Wendell Bontemps was a childrens author, historian, romanceist, editor in chief and librarian. Born on October 13, 1902, in Alexandria, Louisiana, Arna Bontemps was part of an African-American Catholic family of French lineage. For three generations, all of the males in his family had been brick masons, and Bontemps mystify judge his son to follow suit. But after the finale of his engender when he was alto kick the buckether twelve, his arrest had a swop of intent and move intoed him in a private school where he was the only black student. Bontemps went on to be the first particle of his family to enroll in college and receive a degree, but his father was maddened that he ch ose to study literature instead of treat or law After he was graduated from college, he go to New York to see a new way of belief at life and society through black eyes, and Bontemps short became friends with writers such as Langston Hughes, Jean Toomer, and James Weldon Johnson. They encouraged him to own known his poetry and fiction, and his first novel, God Sends Sunday, was published in 1931. The novel was later adapted by Bontemps and Countee Cullen into the stage play, St. Louis Woman. Bontemps go to New York City shortly after his first rime consent was published in THE CRISIS: A RECORD OF THE DARKER RACES (August 1924). Bontemps was an influential and momentous member of the Harlem Renaissance. Many of the themes of his work had an integrative snuggle to African American themes; his attitude toward folk visible and Africa, and his racial protest, reflect the primary concerns of Harlem Renaissance literature.
